The Germans have landed in India! But this time – for peace, not for war. The German government, Government of India’s Department of Science and Technology and chemical engineering firm BASF have brought a 16 bogey long “Mobile Science Exhibition” in a train – filled with scientific experiments, working models and computer presentations in India.
The Science Express was flagged off by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and German Chancellor Angela Markel on October 30, 2007 from New Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station and has already visited more than 30 cities across India.
Though the exhibition was open for all, it primarily targets the high school and college students to practical application of Science in everyday life. It attempts to develop scientific temper among these students and encourages them to pursue their interest in science. Besides it strives to take modern research out of the lab and reveal just how relevant science is to everyday life. In sparkling white colour, the express has more than 300 large format images, over 150 video clips and multimedia exhibits, deals extensively with cutting-edge research in science and technology.
The journey of science express will be ended on June 4, 2008 at the same station where it has started i.e. Delhi Safdarjung station.
